Health promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. It moves beyond a focus on individual behavior towards a wide range of social and environmental interventions. Our role at the project site includes; addressing the crowd awaiting medical attention on health related issues; advising them on the importance of hand washing, hygiene, eating healthy (fruits and vegetables, low cholesterol meals etc); enlightening them on different types of Sexually Transmitted Infections- their modes of transmission and prevention; giving public talks on HIV/AIDS prevention; Voluntary counselling and confidential testing; Behavioral change communication for people living with chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma etc., visitation to secondary schools( health talks on STIs) etc. We went with the Nutrimeal which was given free to any malnourished child seen and in addition, there was a practical demonstration on how to prepare the Nutrimeal.
